Sabah 2k17: III & IV

February 05, 2017

Mount Kinabalu.

Day 3; Kundasang

on our third day in sabah, we were heading for kundasang which is the area around the mountain. finally somewhere cold and breezy to get away from our usual hot weather. the tour guide brought us to this long bridge and called us to walk on it and he'll meet us on the other side. why? i'm not sure. i don't know what's special about this bridge but ehh.. it's travelling let's just do it.

we didn't get to eat breakfast because we all woke up late and no one cooked the maggie mee so we requested to eat brunch instead. we had tauran mee and there were two types: one normal and one with alcohol. of course i was scared of the alcohol infused one cuz i'd get drunk during the day but i tried it anyway haha. honestly, i didn't really like either: the plain was was tasteless and the one with alcohol had a really weird taste. the alcohol tasted really weird. after brunch, we went up the mountain which took a loooooooong time and reached nabalu market with its area having the best angle to take pic of the mount KK if you aren't intending to climb.

at nabalu market, it was filled with batiks and sabah souvenirs obviously. i bought myself some dream catchers (finally!) because the price was so worth it compared to buying it in KL. i'm so happy i got them. esther said she wanted to buy an animal hat. i thought she was joking but she was seriously considering it lol. we went to all the shops and tested each animal hat to see which one fit but in the end, we didn't buy any haha so sorry to the vendors who thought we were buying it. then we went to a sitting area where the others are and enjoyed the view.

me: "oooh jump shot! i wanna join in!"
sther: "let's jump really high, okay?"
me: "okay!"
*jumps as high as we can & checks picture*
keen: "uhhhh..."
charles: "wth was that?! that wasn't even high! WTF LOL."

granny and dog: iconic japanese movie poster.

i'm pretty sure i took too many pictures with sther. i honestly felt like i was doing a photoshoot lol (so not used to it but it was fun). is this what girlfriends feel like when their boyfriend help them to take pictures? takes a lot of thick face to do this LOL.

sohais.

we then proceeded our way to the memorial park, but let's be honest. i didn't really learn anything there except that there was a war in sabah and obviously that's what the park is for. i didn't exactly paid attention to the details and was too distracted by the scenery (sorryyy D:). they have an amazing flower garden though. the place had a grecian vibe to it all. i almost thought i was in spain like the scenery i saw in "legend of the blue sea" when heo joon jae and shim cheong were running away from those thugs. it was beautiful.

keen&charles' braid turns out looking better than how i braid.

photography skills on point.

typical tourist picture.

after i left the seat from taking the group picture,
me: "four of you look like beggars, sitting like that."
sther: "let's act as beggars! any of you guys have a coin?"
huini: "i think i have some. wait, let me get my wallet."
janice: "are we seriously doing this?"
zr: "AHAHAHAHA sohai."
sther: "put the money on the floor. hurry!"
charles: "come come. let's take picture! jun go in!

but then i refused because i wanted to put this in my snapchat lol.

they really went and do it...
look at sther's face HAHAHA.

esther wannabe 2.0:

i thought i was at Taj Mahal when i saw this.
she's clearly excited.
some houses on the hill.

GOPRO effect.
OG pic.

this place reminded me on the runaway bike scene in "legend of the blue sea".

after crazy photo sessions at the memorial park, our next stop was the most anticipated: THE COW FARM. esther was waiting for this for the whole trip lol while charles was more like "yay! smell of cow poop here we come". tbh looking at cows and feeling the country vibes on the mountain was a really refreshing moment. and all the cows just reminded me of moomoo.

when the mist started to come in!

of course what's a cow farm without the petting area?! YAY because i've been dreading so hard on going to a zoo but no one would want that because zoos smell bad so at least having some animal interaction made my day. we fed goats and cows (cuz that's all they had) with milk bottles and omg they were so preciousss.

i fell in love with this cow and thinking whether i should exchange moomoo for this.

two happy girls, one confused goat.

yes, we HAD TO eat the ice cream gelato that was made from cow's milk (duh it's a dairy farm). the chocolate one tasted normal while the original had a yogurt taste which was very surprising but delicious. by then, the mist started to come in. i was waiting for the mist bc the last time i came the place was totally covered by it. it would've been ten times better. keen who came before said the same thing.

i borrowed esther's hat and looked japanese. konichiwa!

next stop: kinabalu park. we didn't intend to come here since it wasn't part of the plan but i'm glad keen mentioned it because i liked this place a lot when i came last time to sabah. the mist, the nature and the air smelled so fresh. i wanted to sneak in but being good citizens, we bought tickets in and followed along the path to find out that we were dying on our way back of the unexpectedly long route lol ffs. at least we did some exercise?

i found a big leaf and pretended to be totoro.

the weather started getting chilly as we walked and i refused to wear my jacket at first because no one had theirs and i wasn't that cold yet but then since i willingly brought it all this way, i should use it right?

keen: "you look like you really came here to jog with you wearing that hoodie and those sport shoes."
me: "really? *starts to pretend jog"*
charles: "who the heck jogs with jeans, keen? lol."
keen: "ehhhh.. esther looks like a character of some sort. i can't quite say what."
charles: "she looks like she's out playing pokemon go."
me: "omg yeah! she looks like a pokemon trainer."
sther: "really? you pretend to be a pokemon, charles."

and they went and did it HAHAH.

after we FINALLY made it back to the original spot, we were dead tired. because we had to go through a super steep up-hill (no joke it was really fkin steep) on the way back which was strenuous af. so ofc, victory group picture! we just worked out on a trip ayyye. you can clearly see that my face looks tired but i was happy about it.

p.s: charles gets triggered when we say kundasan instead of kundasang.

after coming back from kundasang, we finally did the thing we wanted to do most in sabah in which where you can't do anywhere else. EATING CHEAP SEAFOOD. i had the BEST SEAFOOD DINNER at a cheap price of all time. hashtag bless man. i had a food coma after that. bless seafood. but we were still bored so what did we think of doing for our last night in sabah? we went to mcdonald's LOL. you can't escape mcd anywhere son.

we got so high after mcd we had a party in the hotel room.

Day 4; Pulau Sapi

hence comes the last day of our wonderful sabah trip, time passes by so fast. but before our evening flight, we had our last adventure. island hopping. we were deciding between pulau sapi and pulau manukan. idk which island is good or whatever, i only cared about if the time we spent there would be fun. we reached the port and i got complained for constantly putting sun block on myself thrice with everyone's sunblock. i didn't notice it myself but zr said;

zr: "i thought you put sunblock already."
me: "idk i get so paranoid. better safe than sorry."
janice: "yeah jun. everytime i look at you, you're applying sunblock."
zr: "dude, i've seen you put it three times! and with different people's sunblock HAHA."
me: "omg really? i didn't notice i'm so sorry lol idk what came over me."

~ on our way to pulau sapi ~

in malaysia, i'm happy that our east states are not polluted with brown water. it was still trashy but still - it's better than our west states, let's admit that. pulau sapi's ocean was a beautiful emerald green at some point and then crystal blue on picture. i love the look of clean ocean waters.

after we put our belongings on a picnic table, me removing my glasses behind, leaving me blind (i should bring contact lenses next time). keen and charles keep making fun of me of how i can't see and they played the "how many fingers am I holding game" again (typicaaaal thing people do to blind people why tho). basically, they just took the chance to point their mid fings at me freakin' assholes lol. we went off to do our extreme water sports, flying fish and some snorkeling. i enjoyed the four-seater flying fish A LOT. i had a lot of fun besides the fact that our butts were fighting the rough waves during the speed up, but it was worth it.

their bath place tho, errrr.. some china auntie wanted to borrow my body shampoo which i'm totally fine with but she kinda ended up using like five handfulls lol. sharing is caring tho. i can tell she was sincere when she said thank you to me so thank you, auntie from china. now we run back to the main land for lunch and prepare ourselves to get home back to KL.

we tried another sabah delicacy called roti kahwin. it's basically just bread with kaya and butter married to each other. is that their definition of kahwin lol? we had a good munch and a long sleep to the airport to prepare our last goodbyes :(

i'm glad we didn't get into an accident along the way to the airport bc if you recall, my friend isn't an experienced driver and we kinda left her hanging driving us there with all of us asleep except her. i tried to be awake for her sake but the sleep game was too strong i fallen through. good thing nothing bad happened and we reached there safely. bidding our farewell to huini was defo the most painful :( but at least we got to talk to her cute brother hahaha. and thanks so much for mama ng too xx.

we chilled around the airport and checked out the place and ohmygod did i tell u how expensive their ice cream was at mcdonald's? i mean it's the airport ofc it's pricey but RM2 for an ice cream? puh-leasseee no thank you. charles and keen got stopped at the gate for not having this crucial piece of paper which got us super freaking worried that they couldn't come back with us but the lady that was lecturing them helped them out so thanks lady!

we got on our plane as me and esther sat at a different location than the others. instead of sleeping on our way back, me and esther ended up talking the entire journey back. i think it started when i asked about something deep and with girls, any deep topic can bring us talking till tomorrow morning. i get the feeling me and esther just didn't want the experience to stop yet. i'm glad we did. it was a memorable heart-to-heart talk on the plane. it was really special.

arriving at KLIA2, we booked two different taxis. the taxi driver i got was really chatty and friendly bc he was one of those typical chinese uncles hahaha it was cute. we came to nadayu with my brothers there waiting for my arrival already. i lowkey wished they came later so that i can have more time to talk to them but i knew it was something i couldn't avoid. we all exchanged hugs as we said bye. i hugged them so tight and i really refuse to let go of them.

they're marked as really special people in my book. bc if you know me, in terms of the friends i choose, most of them are the ones i considered close. if you weren't close, i would cut contact with you entirely. i guess this is my story of being an introvert haha. i love them to the bottom of my heart and i wish them the best in their degree paths. ofc i will try to refrain myself from misbelieving the ugly truth but it's hard for me okay.

i'm happy i agreed to come on this sabah trip. i'm happy i got to spend my last moments with them with something so memorable. thank you esther, zr, charles, keen, janice and huini for being there. i wish i could've met our other sabah friends: yt and joe too. i wish the whole gang could've joined us in our adventure: yx, sherman, danson, kenwen, ben too i guess lol. thank you starting off my 2017 with a blast. love you guys always.
