An Abundance of Katherines.
June 05, 2015"I want to matter."
"That smile could end wars and cure cancer."
"That's why I love road trips, dude. It's like doing something without actually doing anything."
"What is the point of being alive if you don't at least try to do something remarkable?"
"I don't even know how ugly and pretty get decided."
"If it walks like a cool kid and talks like a cool kid and dresses like a cool kid and has the right mix of naughtyandnastyandnice like a cool kid, it becomes a cool kid."
"They like their coffee like they like their ex-boyfriends: bitter."
"You can love someone so much. But you can never love people as much as you can miss them."
"because you're only thinking they-might-not-like-me-they-might-not-like-me, and guess what? When you act like that, no one likes you."
"How do you just stop being terrified of getting left behind and ending up by yourself forever and meaning anything to the world?"
"Do you ever wonder whether people would like you more or less if they could see inside you?"
"I feel like, like, how you matter is defined by the things that matter to you. You matter as much as the things that matter to you do."
"All this time, there were real things to care about: real, good people who care about me."
"Even if it's a dumb story, telling it changes other people just the slightest little bit, just as living the story changes me. An infinitesimal change. And that infinitesimal change ripples outward - ever smaller but everlasting. I will get forgotten, but the stories will last. And so we all matter - maybe less than a lot, but always more than none.
"you can't stop the future from coming."
Review:
- this book took me donkey years to finish. the first three chapters were so boring i almost gave up halfway. the story only got interesting when i reached chapter eight, because that's where the action, romance and drama starts.
- if you're into so smart stuff like maths, anagramming and graphs, this is the book for you. it's basically full of uninterpretable smart talk so an idiot like me found it pretty hard to understand.
- i loved how the book cover is visually pleasing.
- my favourite character was Hassan. he's this fat muslim kid, best friend of the main character and i honestly learnt a lot of new arab words in the book which were very interesting like kafir, khanzeer, and Iblis. and plus (if you're a religious muslim please back off), he is open-minded muslim which i really like especially when he said: "You think God gives a shit about the haram stuff like having a dog and drinking alcohol? I think He only gives a shit about whether you're a good person." PREACH HASSAN PREACH.
- i like how all the F-words turn into fug. why is that? it's explained in the story.
- this book was okay i guess. but one of my least favourites. i liked the moral value in the end though.
// i'm really bored and very unproductive this holiday. oops i mean every holiday.
